About the event

The craft and art of weaving is a longstanding practice that can be found throughout the world in its various and stunning forms. Out of a deep relationship with the land and an innate sense of belonging to place, peoples have relied upon the organic and animate world to create. Basketry is one such craft and art form. With varying functions and purposes, baskets are one way in which the intricate webbing of our relationship with the world finds form. Weaving becomes an intimate process of dreaming, where our senses, imagination, and bodies become beautifully entangled with our surrounding ecology.

In this playshop, we shall weave ourselves together and learn the craft and art of pine needle basketry through the technique of coiling, its presence and cultivation over time, as well as the peoples and places that have deeply informed, and been informed by, this ancestral skill. Come learn the craft of coiling and weave together community with us.

What you will need to bring: darning needle, beads (if you’d like to adorn your basket), comfy clothes, additional support for sitting, water.

Boxed lunches will be provided. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions ahead of time.
